In fiscal year 2016-17, 2.82 million people filed income tax returns. The tax department said on Monday that the number of filing of returns has increased by 25 percent after the ban.
There has been an increase of 25.3 per cent in individual ITR filings. By August 5, 2.79 crore returns were received, compared to 2.2 million in the previous financial year. An official statement said, “The result of note-taking and operation clean money is that there has been a substantial increase in income tax return filing.”
More than 2.82 crore returns files were filed till the deadline was extended this year, while the last time this figure was 2.26 crores. It has increased 24.7 percent. Last year, the growth rate was 9.9 percent. The last date for filing income tax for personal and HUF (Hindu Undivided Family) was August 5.
