There may be slight increase in the Passenger Service Fee (PSF) given by the air travelers. The reason for this is that the government is considering increasing security and ease tariffs. If this happens then air travel tickets may be some expensive. After a high-level meeting, the Civil Aviation Ministry has been asked to find ways to remove the cost of security management at the airports.
A government official said that the Home Ministry has also been asked to ascertain how much the annual security cost of 143 working airports in the country will be. The report from these two ministries is expected to come in two months.
After that, decision on the increase in the PSF will be decided. Every airline has to pay 130 rupees in the form of security charges in the country. It is a part of the PSF fee of Rs 225 for the airline being booked during the sale of tickets. An official said that security charges of 130 rupees have not been increased since last 15 years.
Now that the security costs of airports have increased manifold in the country, there is a possibility that it will increase. At present, there is no consensus on who will take the burden of the home ministry’s bill of 800 crores to provide security to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at airports in the country. The Ministry of Civil Aviation argues that security is the functioning of the government, in such a case it should come from the accumulated fund of the country. At the same time, the Finance Ministry says that its burden should be put on the plane.
