Last Date Extended for Filing GST Returns

GST Implementation Committee (GIC) has extended the last date for filing GSTR1, GSTR2, and GSTR3 for the month of July. The Government on Monday said the date of filing GSTR 1 has been extended to September 10 against the earlier deadline of 05th Sept 2017. Subsequently, filling of GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 has been extended to September 25 and 30 respectively.

One of the main reasons for the time extension is that businesses were facing issues like surge in traffic on GST portal, system failure etc. in filing the return in due time. This is the second time the last date has been extended for filing GST Return as there were glitches faced by traders. The previous last date for filing Return of GSTR-3B category was August 25, 2017 for business who had not opted to take credit of credit as on June 30, 2017. For those who took the benefit of credit and filed Tran-1 was Aug 28, 2017. As per GST Network officials, there are no glitches and the struggle faced by businesses is due to heavy rush on the portal. By late afternoon, the GSTN portal had crashed under heavy load.

The date extended for filing GSTR-1, GSTR-2, and GSTR-3 for the month of August has also been subsequently extended to 5th, 10th, 15th October 2017. But due date of filing GSTR-3B for month of Aug is same as previous i.e. September 20, 2017.
