WHAT IS IMPORT EXPORT CODE?
For the purpose of expansion of business you need to take your goods or services to the international market to import in or export out of India for that purpose Import Export License is mandatory. IEC Code is an unique 10 digit code issued by Director General of Foreign Trade (DFGT), Ministry of Commerce and Government of India.
General Procedure for obtaining Import Export Code
- Step 1- Application
Applicant has to fill and submitted online application form along with requisite documents in digital format (PDF/GIF) required to be uploaded to the competent authority.
- Step 2- Online Submission
Applicant having digital signature can digitally sign and submit the form.
- Step 3- Offline Submission
Duly signed application form to be submitted in the office of the concerned Jurisdictional Regional Authority (RA) through post or by hand along with copy of documents uploaded and envelope with address return on it.
- Step 4- Confirmation on Receipt
On submission, confirmatory e-mail/sms of receipt would be sent on registered e-mail address/ mobile number.
- Step 5- Approval/Rejection
After processing of e-IEC application:-
(i) Applicant would be informed through e-mail that his application for e-IEC has been approved and a computer generated e-IEC is available on the DGFT website.
Or
(ii) A computer generated rejection letter would be sent at the e-mail address of the applicant. If applicant desires to apply afresh, he/she may do so after repeating the process as above and by paying prescribed amount as application processing fee.
