Like many industry associations and others, the Ministry of Finance has received many products from outside the realm of GST or minimum tax demand. But, the Ministry is in favor of keeping the list of exemptions short. The Central Government currently has 299 and State Governments give tax exemption of 99 items. A top government official said that some items may continue to discontinue even further.
Products consumed by most commonly used goods and people, can be kept in the scope of the discount. Prices offered on salt, fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, tea, coffee and temples will be included in the exemption list. The officer said that this list of exemptions is almost ready and political impact will be taken into consideration.
In many types of tax provisions, so far, all the items within the scope of the exemption can be included in the GST. However, service tax will not be charged on budget hotels with tariff up to Rs 1,000. At the same time, healthcare and education will also be excluded. The final decision will be taken by Thursday or again on this matter, which products are to be excluded from the GST slab. In addition, the finance minister, Arun Jaitley is in talks with Finance Ministers of the States to include all the slab products. The government is of the view that to increase the scope of tax and not to burden the people.
